For the final time this season.....

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 31st August

The seconds win three on the bounce and avoid relegation, the firsts suffer at champions Cornwood and the thirds are beaten by their Cornwood counterparts.

Starting at Harewood where the seconds were entertaining Whitchurch 1st's, here is Capt Beare's report including a festive signing off: -

Having won the toss Whitchurch batted 1st and showed why they were safe going at a Run Rate of 7.07. However they found themselves at 99-5 off 14 overs.

William Scott-Munden removed Josh Towl for 54 - 116-6 the run rate finally slowed.

Cotter & Hodge added 29 - 145-7 and the last 3 wickets fell for another 5 runs. Whitchurch were 150 all out. Dave Wrench 3-33, Drapes, Goulder & Scott-Munden all taking 2 wickets each.

Plympton reply started well, but at 32-2 openers Goulder (4) and Beare (23), Harry Kandampully (61no) & Georgia May Hennessy (50no) came together and shared an unbroken 119 stand to win the game. 20 Points the 2's safe in the D Division West for 2020.

Thanks to all 36 players that played in the 2's this year, and to let me be the 1st to wish you Happy Christmas. See you at Nets. That is All.

The 1st travelled to Oak Park to take on a Cornwood side who knew that victory should give them the A Division title.

Having lost the toss we were asked to bat first and at a modest 60-9 things looked grim. However a final wicket stand of 41 between Jonty (36) and Josiah (9 n/o) helped to take our score into three figures. We finished on 101 - all out in the 30th over.

In reply Cornwood lost five wickets in the chase taken by the last stand pair. Jonty ended up with 4-25 and Josiah 1-22.

Mid table and onwards to next season.

The 3rd's took on Cornwood threes at Plymouth College and having won the toss Capt Sean decided to have a bat. Runs were fairly hard to come by and although a number of players got a start no one went on to make a big total. JCB top scored with 38, Surya made 35 and both Jack and Amanda made 21 in our total of 160-7.

In reply both Cornwood openers made decent scores and set the foundations for their victory which came in the 28th over.

There were two wickets each for Steph & Surya and one each for Sean & Evie Pitman.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 24th August

The penultimate weekend of the campaign produced the perfect set of results for the first time this season with all three teams registering victories in their respective matches.

We start with the seconds who traveled to Chelston & Kingskerswell to take on their firsts. Here is Capt Beare's report: -

Having won the toss, Plympton batted 1st and at 11-2, it looked another awful decision, Harry Kandampully & David Ackford added 58 taking us to 69-3. Georgia May Hennessy joined Harry together adding 54 before Georgia was dismissed for 21 - 123-4 in the 30th Over.

The next 15.4 overs were the Harry and Steve Raven show as they added 169 unbroken. Harry ended on 105no and Steve 115no contributing to a total of Plympton 292-4 in 45.

With opening bowlers Joel Larkman & Oliver Goulder keeping the runs down and C&Kings falling behind the run range Ollie took the 1st wicket 48-1 off 14. Our bowlers continued to chip away and when opener Kulkarni went for 47 at 100-5 in 31overs, it looked like C&Kings would collapse, but some solid defence and bloody mindedness, they kept going slowly.

Matthew Draper (4-27) and Joel Larkman (3-26) finished off their tail. 148 All Out. A win by 145 runs, and a massive 20 points in our fight against relegation, 11 points required. Whitchurch at Home up next.

At Harewood the 1st's hosted Barton. The visitors won the toss and elected to have a bowl.

Despite the early losses of both openers Craig and Ben, Elliot (25) and Justin (38) took us towards three figures. Lots of batmen got a start but no one went on the register a big score. A handy 9th wicket stand between Jacob (24) and Jonty (top scoring with 39) helped take us up to 236 before we were all out for 237 in the 47th over.

In reply we had Barton at 55-4 and things were looking good. A 5th wicket stand of 131 took the visitors up to 186 but the fall of the 5th wicket was the beginning of the end and Barton were all out for 215.

Capt Carr took 3-40, Jacob 2-34, Wrenchy 2-39 and Will 1-31. There were two runs outs.

19 points taken and A Division cricket assured for a further season.

The 3rd's travelled to Chudleigh to take on their 2nd's in a close encounter.

Capt Mortimer won the toss and decided to have a bat. The innings was build around a half century from Paul and aided with 29 from Sam and 23 from Jack. We ended our 40 overs on 176-8.

In reply the Chudleigh openers put on 90 for the first wicket to set their chase up nicely. However once both openers had been removed Chudleigh slipped form 108-1 to 130-7 before eventually capitulating to 158 all out

Capt Sean took 4-20 and their were two wickets each for JCB, Surya and Jake.

Next Saturday sees the final round of games with the 1st's at Cornwood, the 2nd's home to Whitchurch and the 3rd's at home at Plymouth College to Cornwood threes.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 17th August

A thumping win for the 1st's, a decent win for the 2nd's but a defeat for the 3rd's.

Starting at Harewood where the 1st's were looking for a decent result to put clear distance between themselves and the bottom two. Bideford, Littleham & Westward Ho! were the visitors and having won the toss, Capt Carr decided to have a bat.

Opener Ben (top scored with 60) and Craig (45) put on 92 for the 1st wicket and Ben continued to score with Justin (52) adding another 70 runs for the 2nd wicket. A few from the middle order came and went but Jonty slapped 32 off 10 balls to take us up to 239-6 from our reduced 46 overs.

In reply, the visitors never really got going and 50-1 quickly became 85-9 and the match was over bar the shouting. A final wicket stand of 26 delayed the inevitable as Bideford, Littleham & Westward Ho! were all out for 111 at the end of the 41 over.

A superb spell of bowling from young Josiah saw him take a creditable 6-31. Will took 2-25, Wrenchy 1-7 and older sibling Jacob took 1-18.

An excellent all round performance.

Up at Roborough the two's took on Plymouth Civil Service & Roborough 1st's. Winning the toss, Capt Beare decided to have a bat and despite the loss of a few early wickets, a fine 98 not out from Joel and a half century from Deggy (52) helped us amass 233-6 from our 45 overs.

In reply, although wickets fell at regular intervals, there was a collapse from 147-5 to 177 all out. Simon (3-25) and Milly (3-37) cleared up the tail after Joel (2-41) and Deggy (1-37) took out the top three. Drapes chipped in with the other wicket.

At Plymouth College, Shaldon 2nd's were the visitors. Having lost the toss we were asked to bat and sadly most of the batsmen had an off day. An excellent 65 from Paul and 42 from Sam helped us to a modest total of 149 (inc 28 extras thank you!) when we were all out in the 40th over.

In reply, it was game on when Shaldon slipped from 55-1 to 59-4 and then 75-6 but that was it for wickets as the 7th wicket stand saw Shaldon home with six overs to spare.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 10th August

All three teams drew a blank this weekend.

The 1st's travelled across the moor to face Tavistock on a weekend dominated by forecasts of high winds, rain and all other associated carnage. The toss would be vitally important and having lost that we were put into bat.

In no time at all we were 4-4 with only Justin (top scored with 35) managing to cope with the conditions. Wrenchy came and went for a patient 13 but those were the only two batsmen to make it into double figures. Only Justin and Jacob found the boundary during the whole innings which was completed in the 28 overs. A miserable 82 all out.

Chasing on a rapidly drying wicket, Tavy only lost two wickets before surpassing the modest total.

In a closer affair, the seconds lost by 32 runs at Harewood to South Devon 1st's. Capt Beare won the toss and put the visitors into bat.

South Devon were reduced to 87-5 before their middle order put on stands of 68 & 31 for the 6th & 7th wickets respectively. They finished on 193-8 in their 40 overs.

Milly took 3 wickets, Drapes 2, Simon 1 and there were two runs outs

In reply decent opening stand of 65 put us firmly on course but wickets fell and in the end the required rate became too much as we completed our innings short on 161-9.

Po & Olly both scored 33 and Dave got 25.

The 3rd's travelled to Stoke Gabriel to take on their two's. Capt Sean won the toss and decided to have a bat. Despite the early loss of Kevin, Paul (71) and Wilco (50) got the score up to 148 before they were both removed.

JCB knocked 30 off 29 to help take us to 210-9 when the overs ran out.

After tea the hosts timed their chase to perfection passing the required score in the 39th over for the loss of 6 wickets.

JCB took 2, Paul 1, Evie 1, Sean 1 and Alex 1.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 3rd August

Back to winning ways for the 1st's and 2nd's but defeat for the 3rd's.

We start at Harewood where the firsts entertained lowly Abbotskerswell and were put into bat by the visitors. Ben (16) and Craig got things off to a decent start putting on 62 for the first wicket and a 65 run partnership between Craig (73) and Elliot (59 not out) pushed the score along nicely. A few wickets fell before Capt Carr (45 not out) joined Elliot and added 65 for before the overs ran out. 259-6 off our 50.

In reply, Jonty took one of the Abbots openers first ball for a great start. The visitors middle order all made decent scores and at 194-5 Abbots were in a with a shout for victory. However Ben (4-46) skittled out three of the final four wickets and a 22 run victory was completed with two overs to go.

Alex took 2-38, Will 1-37, Jonty 1-36, Donners 1-49 & Joel 1-27.

The seconds travelled to Lewdown, promptly won the toss and elected to have a bowl. Lewdown got off to a fairly decent start getting to 61 before the first wicket fell. Two more quickly followed which was to typical of the innings.  Lewdown were bowled out in the 40th over for just 135.

Surya took 4-24, Milly 3-21, Capt Beare 2-13 and Degg bagged the other.

In reply Olly went first ball but old timers Deggy (20) and Waltz (36) took our score up to 65 before both were removed.

This brought Georgia (19 not out) & Steve (44 not out - inc 5 sixes!!!) to the crease who saw us past the target with relative ease in only the 21st over.

The thirds were home to Paignton's thirds at Plymouth College.

Following on today's pattern Capt Sean won the toss and decided to have a bowl but all the visitors top three made runs contributing to their total of 228-8 in their 40 overs.

Selly took 2-22, Sean 2-24, Ian 2-45 and there was a wicket each for Evie & JCB.

In reply, we lost too may early wickets and despite a top score of 69 not out from Alasdair and 34 from JCB we amassed 173-7 when the overs ran out.

On Sunday Plympton Women's team beat the Hatherleigh counterparts by 127 runs. Cait scored an unbeaten 114 and took a couple of wickets. Olivia took 3 wickets, Ana 2 and there was a wicket each for Evie, Charlie & Emily.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 27th July

A difficult weekend with all three teams suffering defeat.

We start with Simon's report on his 2nd's loss away at Hatherleigh: -

On winning the Toss, we bowled. After an opening partnership of 76, Steve Raven took the 1st wicket, and soon took a 2nd wicket 81-2, off 17 overs, Hatherleigh's 3rd wicket partnership put on 77, before Suriah had Quick Stumped for 63, 158-3, with Oliver Goulder 2-47 and Suriah 5-77 bowling wickets fell at regular intervals as Hatherleigh chased quick runs, Suriah taking three wickets in four balls in the 45th over, Hatherleigh finished 243-9.

Time for the Best away Tea in the Division!

Our turn to bat, Ollie & Dangerous opened and put on 52, before Ollie was Caught for 24, we then lost 2 more wickets and at 80-3, 244 seemed a long way away! David Ackford & Steve Raven put on 113 in 17 overs, 193-4 Dangerous got for 57, having crossed, Steve fell next ball for 82, Milly Squire, entered and left again having been bowled and completing Tidball's hat-trick, 193-6, this soon became 197-8, Amanda Higginbotham & Josiah Caunter added 21 in the last 4.3 overs, only the 4th time this season we've batted 45 overs.

9 points, now 14 points from safety. Lewdown up next.

At Harewood, Hatherleigh 1st's were the visitors and after winning the toss and eyeing up the wicket, they chose to bat.

Three early wickets fell with only 36 runs on the board but sadly the 4th wicket stand of 168 proved a match winner. Hatherleigh ended their 50 overs on 281-7. Jonty took three wickets, Alex two and there was one each for Ben & Jacob.

A good start was essential but Craig went from the first ball he faced. Ben (45) & Elliot (28) then put on 82 for the 2nd wicket but both fell quickly. At 146-3 we were still in with a shout but this quickly became 163 all out.

Justin got 33 and Harry 27. Capt Carr remained unbeaten on 10.

The thirds travelled to Ashburton and restricted the hosts to 176-6 off their 40 overs.

Selly took 2-22, JCB 2-40 and Capt Sean & Isaac took one wicket each.

In reply wickets fell all too regularly and the chase was over in the 37th over with us all out for 144.

Alex made a creditable 40, Paul 27 and Jack 19.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 20th July

Great wins for the two's and three's but the firsts fall short at Budleigh.

We start at Harewood where Capt Beare won the toss and chose to bat. Despite the early loss of Olly and Deggy, the innings was build around a massive 191 run 3rd wicket partnership between Dangerous Dave (118 not out) and DI Wrench (91) taking the score to 245-3. Steve came and went and Georgia (20) stayed with Dave till the last ball of the innings - score posted was 297-5.

In reply the only Kenn batsmen to reach double figures was one of the openers. Wickets fell regularly and were spread around between our bowlers. Ben took an excellent 8-3 off 6 overs, Josiah excelled with 2-7 off 7, Steve took 2-11, Drapes 2-34 and Olly cleared up #11 with his fourth ball and without conceding a run. Kenn were 102 all out.

A resounding 195 run win.

At Plymouth College the 3rd's took on Bridestowe and the visitors won the toss and elected to field.

Wickets fell too often for our liking but a 5th wicket stand of 73 between top scorer JCB (59) and opener Olly (25) took the score up to 129-5. The middle order added a few more runs with Loyd (20) Alex (16) and Po (13) pushing the score up to 164 when the last wicket fell in the 38th over.

In reply a superb bowling display from Surya returning figures of 6-25 off 6.4 proved match winning. Issac took tow wickets and there was one each for the old boys Capt Sean & Selly as the visitors were bowled out in the 22nd over for 83.

A resounding win of 81 runs.

Sadly the 1st's could not add another resounding win to the list.

Budleigh won the toss and batted first. Despite a couple of early breakthroughs, Budleigh's final total of 317-8 was built around a ton from their Zimbabwean international all-rounder.

Jonty took 3 wickets, Jacob and Ben two each and there was one for Joel.

In reply Craig (44) was run out when we were approaching a hundred opening stand with the score on 95. Capt Justin showed the way with 84, Ben made 61 (another run out victim) and we were still in with a shout at 271-6 but sadly it was not to be and we were all out for 280 in the 48th over.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 13th July

The 1st's win at home for the first time this season whilst the two's and three's suffer defeats.

We start at Harewood where Capt Carr won the toss and decided to have a bat. Despite the early loss of Craig for 4, a series of decent partnerships built around an excellent 100 not out from Ben, helped us to a creditable total of 296-5 in our 50 overs. There were also half centuries for both Elliot (52) and Justin (50).

With ball in hand, Capt Carr (3-29) removed the two Ivybridge openers cheaply and despite a few small partnerships, the visitors collapsed from 110-5 to 117 all out.

Ben capped his match winning performance with the bat taking 3-10 with the ball. Will took 2, Jacob 1 and there was a run out for Alex.

The seconds travelled to Ipplepen and having won the toss, put the hosts into bat. Early wickets kept Ipplepen in check but a massive 163 from wicket keeper King helped aid the total to 328-8 from their 45 overs.

There were two wickets each for Deggy, Drapes and JCB and one each for Georgia and Milly.

In reply we had a mini collapse from 40 without loss to 43-3. A few steady partnerships and scores, including an excellent 71 from Georgia, nudged us along but in the end we were all out for 223 in the 42 over. Steve got 40 and Milly 21.

The three's lost to Lustleigh.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 6th July

Another tough weekend for the club with all three Saturday teams suffering defeat. However there was a resounding victory for the ladies on Sunday with a nine wicket win over North Devon.

In brief, the 1st's travelled to high flying Bradninch and posted what looked a respectable score of 283-8. Runs were spread around with Elliot top scoring on 48, Ben 42, Dave 37 and 30 runs for Harry. However, in reply the hosts made short work of the run chase knocking off the required total with 7 overs to spare. Ben grabbed a couple of wickets and there was one each for Alex and Jonty.

At Harewood the two's didn't fair any better despite winning the toss and batting on a decent looking wicket. Runs were a struggle and we were all out for 117 at the end of the 32nd over. Georgia top scored with 32, Steve got 28 and opener Olly was the only other batman to make double figures with 16.

Paignton knocked off a wining chase in 20 overs. JCB notched three wickets and Olly took another.

At Plymouth College, Sean won the toss and put Chagford into bat. The visitors amassed 301 for 6 in their 40 overs with a couple of batmen making more than a run a ball centuries. Luca took three wickets and there was one each for Isaac and Alex with a run out accounting for the other.

In reply both our openers found the going tougher. Olly top scored with a creditable 58 and Alex made 35 in our score of 170-7.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 29th June

Another tricky weekend for the three on-field teams which is best left to the history books.

On a more uplifting note, our Chairman Jon Goulder, took a more positive outlook to the weekends proceedings. Here is his message: -

A game of 3(?) halves this weekend!

Not the results we wanted on the pitch - enough said !! However we did have 33 people playing cricket with a few spare - that is a lot better than a lot of clubs.

A fantastic weekend off the pitch, the bar has taken nearly £3k which is a huge boost to our finances - thanks to Toni Jackson Hamilton for running the BBQ on Friday, Simon Beare and Claire Beare for organising the Mexican night and Paul Hamilton, Toni Hamilton, Adam Sellick, Sean Mortimer, Jon Williams, John Agnew and Kate Goulder for all getting involved in today’s Leander SC family day - we have even gained another adult player out of it.

I hope everyone that got tickets enjoyed Devon day at Somerset, looked like a great day of cricket and a great win for England as well!!!

Bring on the final 9 games of the season!!!!

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 22nd June

Not the finest weekend of the season with all three Saturday teams suffering defeat but there was a good win for the Sunday team to lift the clouds.

Starting with the 3rd's and their 'home' fixture at Holberton against Chudleigh two's.

Here is Capt Sean's take on things: -

Skipper lost the toss and we were invited to have a bat. We opened with Paul Hamilton and Jake Agnew. Jake was the first to go for 1. Ian Duckworth was next in, he also got 1. Isaac Rowsell was next in he managed to hang around for a bit and played some lovely shots, unfortunately he kept finding the fielders. Isaac was out after scoring 6. Becca Halliday then came in and we had our best partnership of the game (35). Paul again managed to find a novel way of getting out, this time edging on to his ankle and being caught behind for 14. Becca top scored with 28 before chipping one back to the bowler. Higgy managed to get to 11 before she was caught and bowled Milly Squire was the only other batter into double figures with 13 no. Olly Maynard managed 1 which was one more than the skipper, Luca Manuell and Evie Privett. We were bowled out for 92 in 35 overs.

After tea we opened the bowling with Evie Privett (2 overs 0-8) who bowled some good deliveries beating the bat on a couple of occasions. Isaac Rowsell (4 Overs 1-9) bowled an extremely good spell and was unlucky not to pick up some more wickets. The wicket he did get was well caught by Luca at mid off. Olly Maynard in his first game back had a go for a couple of overs but unfortunately went for 16 runs. Milly replaced Olly and Sean replaced Isaac as we tried to put a little bit of pressure on Chudleigh. Milly beat the bat on many occasions and finished her 8 overs with 4-29. Sean attempted to bore them out at the other end finishing his 8 Overs 0-13. Jake Agnew and Luca then took over but, with Jake bowling only 1 over which was a maiden, unfortunately as we did not get enough runs

Chudleigh passed the required score during Luca's first over. Overall we worked hard in the field with Luca taking a good catch and making some very good stops, but we still need to bowl less wides, and when we are batting we need to work harder on running singles and not giving away our wickets so easily.

Thank You to everyone who helped with the teas and tidying up after the game and to Mr and Mrs President who came along to watch.

The seconds were home to Chelston & Kingskerwell firsts. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. Despite nicking out one of the openers with the score on 9, a few tidy partnerships took C&K up to 188-8 in their 45 overs. There was three wickets for Drapes and one each for  Simon, Selly, Jason, Steve and JCB.

In reply things never got going with Steve (31) and Craig (16) the only batsmen to make double figures. We were all out for 90 in the 27th over.

The firsts travelled to Barton and suffered an agonising 15 run defeat. Skipper Alex won the toss and stuck the hosts in to bat. Alex then went a removed one of the openers with his third ball and not a run on the board. At 40-4 Barton were in all sorts of trouble but 63 run 5th wicket partnership helped them recover along with some decent middle order batting. We bowled them out for 171 in the final over. Alex returned excellent miserly figures of 10-4-16-1. There were two wickets each for Justin, Jacob, Joel & Ben and one for  Will.

In reply at 86-1 things were looking good. A few quick wickets reduced us to 94-4 but Elliot (top scoring with 46) was holding the innings together. Sadly he departed with the score on 147 and we were all out for 156 in the 40th over.

Up next for the 1st's is the visit of table topping local rivals Cornwood.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 15th June

One win, one loss and one rained off.

We start with the 1st's who undertook their longest trek of the season to the North Devon coast to play Bideford, Littleham & Westward Ho! CC.

Having lost the toss we were asked to bat first and after Ben was removed for 1 it looked like it would be hard going. Dave (21), Elliot (17) and Justin (29) all got starts but didn't go on. 74-3 quickly became 105-8 and we were in danger of being bowled out well short of batting out our overs. The fall of the eight wicket however brought together Capt Carr and Joel who steered the ship in the right direction, adding a magnificent 95 for the ninth wicket before Alex was bowled for a top score of 53. Joel followed soon after for 34 and we were all out for 202 in the 49th over.

In reply we reduced the hosts to 35-4 with Justin (7-2-20-2) removing both openers. More quick wickets fell and at 65-9 it was just a matter of time. Bideford put on 33 for the final wicket but when Joel took #11 the game was over. We won by a creditable 104 runs.

Alex followed up his top score with the bat by bowling his 10 overs for just 11 runs and taking a wicket too. Donners only went for 14 off 8 taking a couple of wickets along the way, Will  took two wickets and there was one for Ben. Jack's run out accounting for the other wicket.

The 3rd's travelled to Shaldon and had a day to forget. Being asked to bat first, we were bowled out for 42 before the hosts knocked off the required runs for the loss of only two wickets.

At Harewood the 2nd's game was scuppered after heavy overnight rain soaked through the covers and left the wicket unplayable.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 8th June

Another good win for the 3rd's but disappointment for both the 1st's and the 2nd's.

Starting with the thirds who hosted Stoke Gabriel at Yealmpton, we won the toss and put the visitors in to bat. After a couple of early wickets Stoke settled into their innings and a 3rd wicket partnership of 84 took them to 121. After this wickets fell regularly and they ended on 178-9 off their 40 overs. Milly took 3 - 24, Sean a miserly 2 - 13, Alex 2 - 53 and there was a wicket each for Evie and Isaac.

In reply, Paul was dismissed before there was a run on the board. However our innings was built around a great 74 from Jack. Amanda, Alex, Jake, Isaac & Milly all got into double figures as the total required was knocked off in the 31st over.

At Harewood the firsts hosted Tavistock and after losing the toss were asked to bat.. Sadly wickets fell all too regularly and despite middle order resistance from Jack and Will - who both made 38, there was little else to shout about. Ben made 33 and Elliot 18 but they were the only four batmen to make double figures.  We were all out in the 46th over for 160.

In reply, Tavy raced to the total needed with opener Aucamp making an unbeaten 94 off 57 balls to help see the visitors over the line in the 23rd over. Tavy made it with the loss of only two wickets.

The seconds travelled to Newton abbot to play South Devon 1st XI but were beaten by 4 wickets. Here is Cap't Simon's report: -

Having lost another toss and being invited to bat the 2's were soon 6-1. Christian Bunney & David Ackford put on 40, 46-2 in the 13th Over. Skipper Beare soon came and went, 58-3, which soon became 78-4, when Ackford was dismissed for 19. The returning Craig Miles joined Steve Raven together they had our best partnership of our innings adding 43 before Raven was removed stumped for 30. 121-5 off 31. 16 runs later Miles was bowled by Allen (3-29) for 31. Po & Suresh put on 37 before both were removed in successive balls 174-8 off 41.1. We fell away to 184 all out off 43 overs.

We watched happily as rain fell whilst we ate tea, but opening bowlers Beare & Matthew Draper could not get the wicket. Ben Phillips came on and 1st ball claimed the wicket of Tupman 43-1. Adam Sellick took over from Draper and had Wright Caught behind 80-2 off 16. Allen came & went stumped by Po off the bowling of Phillips. Suresh replaced Phillips and after going for 8 off his 1st two balls, bowled Salinder for 12 with his 6th ball. Next over Sellick had Price caught at slip South Devon were 100-5 in 20 Overs. Despite Sellick (3-35) bowling brilliantly, South Devon's 6,7 & 8 put on 87 for only 1 more wicket, their no 8 top scoring with the bat 37no, but 51 extras in a total of 187 let us down 46 of which were wides.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 1st June

There was a thumping win for the 1st but defeats for the two's and three's.

We start with the first's great win at Abbotskerswell where thanks to another super batting performance from Justin with 125 runs we amassed an almighty 356 runs.

Winning the toss, skipper Alex opted to bat. Ben and Wrenchy both were out before we'd reached 50 but this paired Elliot and Justin in the middle. A stand of 156 put us firmly in control with Elliot reaching 56 before being bowled. Harry hammered 43 and together with the lower order Justin pushed the score onto 356-9 when our 50 overs ran out.

With the ball, things started well with wickets falling at regular intervals. At 99-7 it looked like an early finish was on the cards but Abbots put together a couple of half decent partnerships to end on 220 all out - 136 runs adrift of their target.

Will recorded excellent bowling figures of 5-46, Jacob was miserly with 1-21 off his 10, Donners 1-16 off 5.5 and there was a wicket each for both Jonty & Elliot.

Onwards and upwards!!!

At Harewood the 2nd's hosted Lewdown firsts. Here is Capt Simon's report: -

Finally the skipper won a toss (not a good omen). Plympton batted 1st and soon took up our usual position of being 3 wickets down before the 50 is up! This week's bonus ball winner is 33, 33-3! Steve (run machine) Raven joined Johnny Rob Walker and played well together to get to drinks at 93-3 off 15. As is often the case, 1st over after drinks a wicket Johnny gone for 34 - 2 balls later 94-5 with Joel Larkman LBW.

Wickets fell at regular intervals while Run Machine went past 50 for the 3rd time in 3 weeks, we finished on 166 all out, only 4 Batsmen getting double figures, 4 Batsmen collecting ducks!

Tea - Blooming Lovely!

Lewdown started like there was a final to watch! Joel Larkman taking 3 early wickets reduced Lewdown to 52-3. Two missed chances cost – Ball (63) dropped on 18 and Pengelly 9 (62no) on 10. As various bowlers were tried, Plympton finally took a 4th wicket when Becca Halliday had Ball caught by Raven 160-4. Sadly too little too late and Lewdown won by 6 Wickets.

Bad day at the office. We Go Again Next Week - South Devon Away.

The thirds had a very close game with their Paignton counterparts before losing by 2 wickets. Stand in skipper Paul won the toss and elected to bat. Early wickets fell but the innings was based around a great 71 not out from Wilko and 42 from Ben. We had reached 209-8 from 40 overs.

In reply, having removed both openers cheaply the next two stands of 65 and 76 effectively killed the game. A late flurry of wickets couldn't prevent the hosts winning the game.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 25th May

1st Team v Hatherleigh CC

The 1sts push Hatherleigh all the way but there are great wins for the twos and threes.

We start with the thirds who got their first win of the season at the forth time of asking. Here is Capt Sean's report: -

We lost the toss and were put in to bat. We opened with Paul Hamilton and Jake Agnew. Jake was bowled at the end of the second (2-2), Jon Williams then entered the fray and lasted until the 9th over when he was bowled for 3 (14-2). Next in was Jack Sellick who miss hit one and was out for 1 (26-3), meanwhile Paul was remaining calm at the other end. Kevin Beare (2) hung around to take the total to 43 before he was also out. Ben Phillips was next to go for 6 (70-6). Adam Sellick then stayed with Paul scoring 7 and allowing Paul to move on with the scoring, Selly went at 102. Evie Pitman(8) and Paul then put on 21 until Evie was caught (123-8) Sean then joined Paul who promptly chipped one to mid off and was finally out for 79 (134-9). In came Olly McDonnell who after missing 2 defensive strokes decided it would be better to play like a proper number 11 and smash it, he hit a quickfire 38 including 3 sixes, his fun stopped when Sean was out for 11 during the last over of the innings. We finished 190 ao. It was great to see Paul stay there and hold things together allowing Olly to give it a go at the end.

After tea Selly and Olly opened the bowling and the difference in pace between the 2 teams became obvious with the ball jumping off a length causing problems for all the batsmen. We did have to wait until the 7th over for the first wicket fortunately Selly(8-3-29) took 2 in the over and the next over Olly(8-3-24) got into the action with another wicket. Selly bowled straight through his 8 overs picking up another wicket in his last over. At that point Ashburton were 62 for 4. They then had there best partnership of the innings and took their score on to 146. During this period it was difficult to stop the boundaries. Joel Larkman bowled a good spell of 5 overs for 16 runs but could not get a wicket. Evie Pitman(2-0-14) came into the action but pulled up lame after 2 overs, Jake Agnew had a go but only managed 1 over before he came off with a bad back. We then switched the bowling about a bit with Paul (3-0-14), Jack Sellick (2-0-19) and Ben Phillips (2-0-8). We got the breakthrough in the end with Sean(7-2-14) getting an LBW decision and then bowling the main aggressor, after this the runs dried up for Ashburton with Olly coming back to finish his overs taking 2 more wickets and Joel (7-1-17) bowling the last couple of overs taking a wicket, unfortunately we could not get the last wicket, but won by 26 runs.

A very positive game with everyone playing their part in the win.

A big thank you to Jo and Dan Pitman for laying on a fantastic tea for us.

Also thanks to Adie Manuell for Umpiring.

The seconds are on a roll getting their second win of the season at home to Hatherleigh 2's. Here is Capt Simon's report: -

Having lost another toss, we bowled 1st. Jonty (Mullet) Walliker opened the bowling with Matthew Draper - Drapes taking the 1st wicket with the score on 27. The Mullet got the 2nd wicket 37-2.

A double change after 13overs brought Josiah Caunter and Steve Raven, Josiah taking the 3rd wicket before drinks. JC & SR bowled straight through their 9 over each with figures JC 9-3-24-2 SR 9-2-17-2. Hatherleigh 86-6 off 31.

The next 4 overs disappeared for 38. Jake Campbell-Beattie & Simon Beare lost a little control and Hatherleigh pushed on. The Mullet returned to remove their Skipper for 63. Jason Degg came on and took a wicket with his 1st ball - 127-8. Mullet removed their No10 - 137-9.  The Hatherleigh last paired then added 51 in the final 6.3 overs. 188-9.

Tea Very Nice!

Oliver Goulder and Jason Degg opened the batting putting on 25 before Ollie was caught for 1. Next ball Rob Walker was bowled - 25-2. Two runs later Dave Wrench was out - 27-3. Beare joined Degg in the middle and added 35 before Beare was bowled at 62-4. This soon became 65-5 off 16 with Degg gone for 32. Enter The Raven & The Mullet, adding 105 in 18 overs before The Raven was caught on the boundary for 55. Two balls later another wicket and Sam Agnew was gone - 170-7. Enter JCB - scoring 1no and helping The Mullet finish the game. Jonty Walliker ending with 66 Not Out finishing the game with two 6's.

2's Win by 3Wkts

At high flying Hatherleigh, the firsts won the toss and elected to bat. Slow and steady partnerships based around Ben's half century and Elliot's 26 took us up to 135 before Buns was out with the score on 135-4. Justin powered an impressive 92 off only 78 ball (inc four 6's!) but wickets fell around him and we ended our 50 overs on 228-8.

In reply Hatherleigh scored at a better rate, knowing the target they had to chase, and were seemingly coasting at 169-3 when there was a slight collapse to 181-7 giving us hope of a win. The eight wicket fell on 212 with 17 still needed, The 9th came with the scores tied at 228 but with time on their side the hosts notched the single they needed for victory.

Ben took 3 wickets and there was one apiece for Craig (10-4-17-1) Alex, Jacob & Will. There were also a couple of run outs.

Match Reports & Teams For Saturday 18th May

Defeat for the 1st's & 3rd's but a massive win for the 2nd's.

We start at Kenn where the seconds looked to get their season going. We have Simon Beare's report here: -

Having lost the toss we were invited to bat, openers Jason Degg and Kevin Beare (combined age 106) opened, their partnership was broken at 99 less than their combined age (7 for those with not enough fingers) Jason was joined by the returning Rob Walker (Johnny) together they added 54 when Jason was bowled. Enter Skipper Simon Beare, together Johnny and Simon added 85 in 14 Overs when Rob Johnny Walker was caught at Short Extra (the fielder knew nothing about it!) for 70, in came Man of the match Steve Raven, another 24 were added before Simon was out LBW for 46. Becca Halliday joined Steve adding 103 as the Raven cut loose with the score at 266 Becca was caught at Mid-wicket in walked Jake Campbell-Beattie hitting his 1st ball for 6, The Raven was finally removed for 107 in the 45th Over JCB and Matthew Draper another 12 in the remaining 4 balls, Drapes hit the last ball of the innings for 6! Plympton 296 for 6.

After 12 overs a double change of bowling enter JCB and Milly Squire after 5.2 overs without a wicket Milly removed Snell for 3, 2 balls bowling Underhill round his legs. Finally in his 4th over JCB joined the wickets when Amanda Higginbotham Stumped (yes Chris Dawe Po) Passmore 25-82 runs later Milly (3-2) removed Stone LBW, and the win was wrapped up by JCB (2-12) when Hutchins was Caught Behind for 2.
Kenn 31 All Out .

A winning Margin of 265 Runs!

At Bridestowe the 3rd's were unlucky not to pick up their first win of the season. Here is Cap't Sean's report: -

We won the toss and invited Bridestowe to bat.

Bowling was opened by Sean and Selly (probably the heaviest opening attack in the league). The opening batsman decided he was going to have a go at everything and after chipping the ball into various gaps was finally caught by Jack Sellick with a superb diving catch. This started a steady flow of wickets with Selly taking 2-17 off 5 Overs, Sean 3-20 off 8 Overs, Evie Pitman 4-28 off 6 overs and Jake Agnew mopping up the tail with 1-7 off 4 overs. The bowling was unfortunately let down by the bowling of 28 wides between us, which had a big effect on the game. Bridestowe finished on 81.

We began the chase with Jon Williams and Jake Agnew, Jon was off the mark after only 3 balls but unfortunately only went on to make 7. Some accurate bowling by Bridestowe brought a steady flow of wickets and at tea we were 25-5. Tea didn't seem to improve our batting with the wickets continuing to fall with us finally all out for 61, only Ben Phillips managed to make double figures.

Back at HQ, the 1st's hosted Budleigh Salterton. The visitors won the toss and put us in. Dave and Buns fell cheaply and despite starts for both Ben (14) and Jack (17) we were soon reduced to 48-4. This brought Harry & Will to the crease and they steadied the ship taking us up to 86 at drinks. Having reached a 50 partnership the innings began to unravel. Will fell for 25, Alex came and went without scoring, Jacob was run out and the last hope Harry was bowled for a top score of 35. We ended on 113 all out in the 36th over.

In reply both of the Budleigh openers were removed with the score on 41 but a stand of 64 for the 3rd wicket ended our resistance. Budleigh running out winners by 6 wickets. There was a wicket each for Jacob, Jamie, Ben and Donners.
